The Rhythm of Worship
The word "worship" means "to ascribe ultimate worth to." We have all kinds of people and things in our lives that have worth and value. We get to choose what is valuable to us, what we give our attention to, and order our lives around. But whether we mean to or not, we will give "ultimate worth" to someone or something. We are going to worship someone or something.
When we consider the gift of life that God has given us in Jesus Christ, we come to realize that He is the only one who is worthy to be worshiped. We begin to see His incredible creative power, His kindness towards us, and His authority over all of life on earth, and even over death! We no longer want to worship ourselves, or other people, or other things.
Another amazing thing is that when we decide each day to give our worship to God, and to give Him the highest place of worth and value in our lives, then all other relationships with people, things, and activities can come into their own rightful place of value.
Worshiping God in our hearts each day and praising Him together with other believers each week is the rhythm of the Christian life.
It is written . . .
Worship the Lord your God and serve Him only. Luke 4:8
Worship the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful songs. Psalm 100:2
